Baytown Assisted Living Facility Sued
Over Negligence in Resident’s Death
A Baytown assisted living facility is facing a lawsuit alleging negligence that led to the death of a resident. Gary Beltz has filed a lawsuit against CSL Baytown, LLC, and Sonida Senior Living, Inc., claiming that their inadequate care resulted in his mother’s death. The lawsuit, filed on February 7, 2025, in Harris County District Court, seeks damages for negligence and gross negligence.
The case centers around The Waterford at Baytown, an assisted living facility where Mary Beltz was admitted on August 31, 2023. Due to her medical history, including hypertension and hyperlipidemia, and previous fall-related injuries, she was identified as a high fall risk. However, the lawsuit alleges that facility staff failed to provide necessary assistance with walking and transfers, leading to multiple falls. The most serious incident occurred on May 6, 2024, when she suffered a fractured right femur. She never fully recovered from the injury and passed away on August 11, 2024.
The lawsuit claims the facility failed to implement adequate fall prevention measures, did not provide proper monitoring and care after her falls, and neglected to transfer her to a higher level of care when necessary. Additionally, allegations include insufficient staffing and inadequate supervision, contributing to lapses in care.
Beyond negligence, the lawsuit also accuses the facility of gross negligence, arguing that staff were aware of the risks posed by their actions but showed a conscious disregard for Mary Beltz’s well-being. The complaint asserts that despite her history of falls, no meaningful steps were taken to prevent further incidents.
Gary Beltz is seeking damages under Texas law for wrongful death and survival claims. His lawsuit requests compensation for medical expenses, mental anguish, loss of companionship, pecuniary losses, and loss of inheritance. He is also pursuing exemplary damages due to the alleged gross negligence of the defendants.

Monday’s Quiz -What unusual feature makes glass frogs unique among amphibians?
Answer: A) Their skin is translucent, allowing you to see their internal organs.
Glass frogs, found in Central and South America, have semi-transparent skin, especially on their bellies. This allows their internal organs—heart, liver, and intestines—to be visible! Scientists believe this unique adaptation helps them camouflage better by breaking up their outline on leaves.
