City of Baytown Issues Boil Water Notice
for Public Water System

Due to low water pressure associated with a water main break on Bayway Drive the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Baytown public water system 1010003 to notify all customers, individuals, or employees that this establishment or business has implemented a boil water notice. All water provided by this establishment or business shall be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, all customers, individuals, or employees may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials of this establishment or business will notify customers, individuals, or employees that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system officials will issue a notice to customers, individuals, or employees of this establishment or business that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner like this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Repairs are currently being made and the water system will be restored and tested prior to the rescinding of this notice. The boil water notice is for those residents/businesses located along Bayway Drive from Spur 330 to Bayvilla Dr. and along Baker Road from Bayway Drive to Bush Road.

Our Public Works crews continue to work on water line repairs in the Lakewood and Baker Road areas. We apologize for the disruption this has caused. However, during the temporary restoration of services, water pressure did not return back to necessary levels.

As a precaution, we are required to issue a Boil Water Notice. To see entire list of impacted areas click here

 Former Barbers Hill Teacher Accused
of Improper Relationship with Student

A former Barbers Hill High School teacher has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to court records.

Molly Colleen Spears, a former educator in Mont Belvieu, Texas, was indicted in June 2024 on a second-degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and student. If convicted, she could face 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Spears surrendered to the Chambers County Jail on Tuesday, months after a warrant was issued for her arrest. It remains unclear why she was not taken into custody earlier, but her attorney confirmed she turned herself in voluntarily.

After being booked, Spears posted a $50,000 bond and was released. Officials have not provided specific details about when the alleged incident occurred in 2023.

The case is now moving through the court system as authorities continue their investigation.

Tuesday’s Quiz -What surprising feature allows pistol shrimp to stun prey with incredible force?
Answer: C) They snap their claw so fast it creates a bubble that produces heat nearly as hot as the sun.

The pistol shrimp, also known as the snapping shrimp, can snap its specialized claw so rapidly that it creates a high-speed bubble. When this bubble collapses, it generates a shockwave strong enough to stun prey and briefly produces temperatures near 8,000°F (4,427°C)—close to the surface temperature of the sun!
