Baytown’s Energy Future Strengthened
by Adnoc’s Investment Shift
ExxonMobil’s Baytown operations continue to attract major international investment, with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) shifting its 35% stake in Exxon’s planned Baytown hydrogen project to its newly formed XRG PJSC. This move is part of Adnoc’s broader $80 billion global expansion, reinforcing Baytown’s role in the future of low-carbon energy.
The Baytown hydrogen project, expected to be one of the world’s largest, will produce hydrogen while capturing 98% of CO2 emissions, making it a key player in the clean energy transition. While ExxonMobil remains the lead developer, Adnoc’s involvement highlights Baytown’s increasing significance on the global energy stage.
Adnoc’s Expanding Baytown Presence
This isn’t Adnoc’s only investment in Baytown. In October 2024, Adnoc acquired Covestro, a leading polymer manufacturer with a major plant in Baytown, as part of a $16 billion deal. With stakes in both advanced materials production and low-carbon hydrogen, Adnoc’s overlapping interests in Baytown’s industrial sector signal confidence in the city’s role in energy and manufacturing innovation.
As ExxonMobil, Adnoc, and other global players continue investing in Baytown, the city remains a critical hub for energy, technology, and economic growth.

The Mont Belvieu Fire Department reminds us that this week is National Burn Awareness Week, and here’s a hot tip to keep your kitchen safe: Always use a timer when cooking and never leave food unattended! Unattended cooking is the leading cause of kitchen fires, but a simple timer can help prevent disaster.
Stay safe - set it and don’t forget it! ⏲️
