Building Baytown's Future Together

Baytown is proud to announce a collaboration with Lee College to explore the creation of a transformative multipurpose public facility for our community. This reflects our shared commitment to improving the quality of life for future generations of Baytonians through education while enhancing opportunities for innovation, culture, and meaningful connections

This is the beginning of imagining the possibilities of a space that not only serves as a vibrant hub for residents and students but also as a catalyst for ingenuity and progress

Baytown Mayor Charles Johnson said, “A collaboration of this scale is essential for a project of this magnitude. By joining together in this latest effort, we will be creating a space that ignites a deeper community connection and will have a lasting impact for current and future generations.”

"This collaboration of exploration is a testament to our joint dedication to building stronger communities, expanding opportunities for economic development, and improving the lives of our residents and students. By combining our resources and expertise in a feasibility and planning process, Lee College and the City of Baytown are working together to create lasting community benefits," said Daryl Fontenot, Lee College Board Chair.

The City is leading planning efforts and engaging input from the Baytown community to ensure the project reflects our collective values and aspirations. Under this interlocal agreement, Lee College is committed to working closely with the City, and both the college and the city are dedicated to bringing this exciting vision to life that will contribute to Baytown’s economic growth and job opportunities.

This partnership exemplifies what makes Baytown special: collaboration and a shared dedication to progress. Together, we are building a brighter future for Baytown.

Question Mark What GIF

Thurday’s answer
C) They produce a venom-neutralizing protein in their blood.

Thursday’s Quiz - What unique trait helps opossums survive encounters with venomous snakes?
Answer: Opossums are remarkably resistant to venom from snakes like rattlesnakes and pit vipers, thanks to a protein in their blood called Lethal Toxin-Neutralizing Factor (LTNF), which neutralizes the venom’s effects. Scientists are studying this protein for potential applications in anti-venom treatments.
Opossums are unsung heroes of our ecosystem, providing countless benefits to the neighborhoods they inhabit. Immune to snake venom, these remarkable creatures feast on venomous snakes like copperheads, water moccasins, and rattlesnakes, helping to control dangerous populations. They’re also voracious tick eaters, with a single opossum consuming up to 5,000 ticks in a season, significantly reducing the spread of tick-borne diseases. As scavengers, opossums clean up roadkill and other debris, keeping our streets and neighborhoods cleaner. Despite their rat-like appearance that sometimes alarms people, they are harmless to humans and provide natural pest control by eating rodents, cockroaches, and insects. By protecting and respecting opossums, we can embrace their role as nature’s pest controllers and scavengers while taking care to avoid harming them on roadways.
