BPD Garage Personnel Honored
with Chief's Unit Citation 🚓🔧

The Baytown Police Department recognized the dedication and resilience of their Garage Personnel, who have been awarded the prestigious Chief’s Unit Citation!

When the city began building the new public safety complex, the old PD garage needed to be demolished before the new facility could be completed. This meant Mechanic Supervisor Sonny A. and mechanics Bryon B., Alberto G., and Fernando C. had to relocate a massive amount of parts and equipment while keeping operations running smoothly from a temporary garage.

Dedication Under Challenging Conditions

Starting in July 2022, these men tackled:

  • 280 vehicles needing maintenance and repairs 🚓

  • Cramped, hot working conditions (no air conditioning!) 😓

  • Limited equipment and resources 🔧

Though they were initially told the temporary setup would last 4 months, construction delays stretched it to over 7 months. Despite these challenges, they:

  • Maintained positive attitudes 😊

  • Kept police units operational with minimal downtime 🕒

  • Ensured the department’s efficiency and effectiveness 🚔

In February 2023, the new garage opened, and the team efficiently moved everything back, ensuring a seamless transition.

👏 Congratulations to the BPD Garage Personnel for this well-deserved recognition. Your professionalism, teamwork, and commitment keep our city running smoothly. We appreciate all you do! 🔧🚨

Anahuac ISD Tackles College Readiness Gaps with New Statewide Program

In an effort to boost college and career readiness, Anahuac ISD has joined the OneGoal Leadership Network through a new partnership between OneGoal and the Texas Impact Network (TIN). This initiative aims to provide rural school districts with tailored strategies and resources to improve postsecondary outcomes for students.

Anahuac ISD, along with nine other rural districts, will benefit from expert coaching, customized improvement plans, and strategies to enhance key metrics such as FAFSA and TASFA completion, dual credit enrollment, and overall college, career, and military readiness (CCMR). The program addresses longstanding challenges faced by rural schools, including limited college and career advising due to high counselor-to-student ratios and resource gaps.

The collaboration comes at a critical time, as only 22% of students from low-income communities nationwide earn a postsecondary degree compared to 67% of their higher-income peers. By joining the OneGoal Leadership Network, Anahuac ISD will receive free support to help students make informed decisions and feel confident about their futures.

Lynette Balkcom, Director of TIN’s Rural CCMR Accelerator Program, emphasized the importance of supporting rural school leaders who juggle multiple roles. The program aims to create sustainable systems that give students in communities like Anahuac the tools they need to succeed after high school.

The initiative is set to launch for the 2024-2025 school year, with TIN planning to fund 10 additional rural districts in the following year. For Anahuac ISD students, this partnership represents a significant step toward closing the opportunity gap and building brighter postsecondary futures.

Question Mark What GIF

Wednesday’s answer
A) Creating bubble nets

Wednesday’s Quiz - What unique behavior do humpback whales exhibit that helps other animals, including different species, find food? Humpback whales use a cooperative feeding technique called bubble net feeding. They swim in a spiral pattern and blow bubbles to create a "net" that traps fish in a concentrated area, making them easier to catch. Interestingly, this behavior can also benefit other species, such as seabirds and smaller fish, who take advantage of the trapped prey.
