Lieutenant James Weaver

The Baytown Fire Department has named Lieutenant James Weaver as the
2024 Firefighter of the Year in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the department’s behavioral health program. Lt. Weaver has played a pivotal role in developing one of the most forward-thinking mental health support systems in Texas.

Over the past few years, Lt. Weaver has focused on researching and validating resources, securing backing from department and city leadership, and establishing a robust support framework. His initiatives have led to comprehensive mental health services for department members, including a peer support team, specialized training conducted by psychologists familiar with emergency service work, and immediate psychological assistance during crises.

His dedication to enhancing mental health within the department has significantly improved the resilience and overall well-being of his colleagues, leaving a lasting legacy of support and care.

Congratulations Lieutenant Weaver🎉

Baytown Woman Sues Kroger
Over Parking Lot Injury

A Texas woman has taken legal action against a major grocery chain, alleging negligence after sustaining injuries in a store parking lot. Shirley Gilbert filed the lawsuit on December 4, 2024, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, naming Kroger Texas, LP as the defendant and accusing the company of failing to maintain a safe environment.

The incident occurred on March 11, 2023, in the parking lot of a Kroger store at 1700 N. Alexander Dr., Baytown, Texas. According to the complaint, Gilbert fell while closing her car door after tripping over a hazard. As a customer on the premises, she claims Kroger had a duty to keep the property in a reasonably safe condition or warn patrons of potential dangers. Gilbert argues that this duty was neglected, resulting in serious injuries.

The lawsuit asserts that Kroger is liable due to premises negligence, claiming the company was aware—or should have been aware—of the hazard but did not take proper action to correct it or alert customers. Additionally, Gilbert accuses Kroger of failing to train and supervise employees adequately, arguing this contributed to unsafe conditions in the parking lot.

Gilbert is seeking damages exceeding $250,000 for medical costs, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and physical impairment caused by the fall.

ExxonMobil’s Baytown Low-Carbon Project Moves Forward with Worley on Board

Australian engineering firm Worley has secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from ExxonMobil for a low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia facility in Baytown, Texas. The contract covers enabling works, infrastructure, and interconnects, contingent on a final investment decision (FID), favorable government policies, and regulatory approvals.

Worley’s CEO, Chris Ashton, highlighted the project’s importance for strengthening their partnership with ExxonMobil. The Baytown facility aims to produce 28.3 million cubic meters (1 billion cubic feet) of low-carbon hydrogen daily and nearly 1 million metric tonnes of ammonia annually, capturing 98% of CO₂ emissions through advanced carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.

A final investment decision is expected in 2025, with operations starting in 2029. The project will create jobs and boost the local economy. ExxonMobil has partnered with ADNOC, which holds a 35% equity stake, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the demand for lower-carbon fuels.

Question Mark What GIF

Monday’s answer
B) The density of nerve endings in their paws

Monday’s Quiz - What unique feature of raccoons allows them to have such a highly developed sense of touch? Raccoons have a very high concentration of nerve endings in their front paws. Nearly two-thirds of the sensory area in a raccoon's brain is dedicated to touch. When their paws are wet, their sense of touch is even more enhanced, which helps them identify objects and food in the dark or underwater. This is why they are often seen “washing” or wetting their food before eating.
