Baytown Fire Department Responds to Chemical Fire on N. Main St.
At approximately 10 a.m., yesterday [Tues. Dec. 10th] Baytown Fire Department crews responded to a brush fire in the 6400 block of N. Main St. Upon arrival, it was determined that chemicals from Bluebonnet Petrochemical Solutions (BPS) had ignited, leading to a HazMat response and a box alarm.
Crews worked quickly to suppress the fire, and as a precaution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for Alamo Elementary until the fire was fully extinguished.
Chemicals Involved:
Methyl Palmitate (MeP)
Diethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether
Air monitoring conducted during the incident found no threat to the public. Environmental agencies were notified, and N. Main St. has since been reopened. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Baytown Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
