TxDOT Partners with HCTRA
for Streamlined Toll Operations

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is joining forces with the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) to provide a more regional and user-friendly approach to toll billing and customer service. This transition, covering toll roads in the Austin and Houston regions, aims to improve efficiency, reduce fees, and simplify invoicing for drivers.

Key Changes for Drivers

TxTag Accounts: Customers will transition to an EZ TAG account, managed at HCTRA.org. TxTags will still work on toll roads in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

Simplified Billing: Non-tag users will receive one consolidated invoice from HCTRA for toll roads in both regions.

Payment Options: Expanded walk-in centers, including EZ TAG stores in Austin and Houston, and payment options at retailers like Walmart and H-E-B.

Fee Structure: Non-tag customers will see bills under HCTRA’s simplified invoicing system. Austin-area drivers on Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority roads will still receive separate invoices.

Why the Change?

According to TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams, the partnership will bring significant savings and efficiency, benefiting customers with lower fees and helping to keep toll rates stable. HCTRA’s 40 years of toll service experience will provide reliable and high-quality support for toll road users.

Avoid Higher Fees:

Drivers are encouraged to resolve any overdue toll bills and sign up for a toll tag account to take advantage of lower rates and streamlined billing.
