Spotlight on: Flo’s Hair Suite
From Department Store to Dream Salon
After dedicating 14 years as a master stylist at JCPenney, Flo Pleasant left her longtime post to venture into something she’d long dreamed of—her own styling salon. Flo opened her doors in 2021, bringing not only her skill but also a commitment to personalized service that makes every client feel special. Known for her efficient, dedicated approach, she ensures that "your appointment time is your time." Clients find themselves in and out within a comfortable 45 minutes to an hour, enjoying a service free from the hustle and overbooking that sometimes clouds the salon experience.
But her community spirit extends far beyond the salon chair. For the past two years, Flo has hosted a toy and diaper drive for the young moms at Peter Hylands, gathering essentials to brighten the day for both moms and their little ones. This tradition reflects her heartfelt connection to the community and her desire to give back.
Flo’s business has grown out of a deep love for styling and the freedom that comes with running a business. Each client can expect a blend of professionalism honed over years in a bustling department store salon and the warmth of a neighbor whose joy is in seeing clients leave looking—and feeling—their best. Whether you're looking for a fresh cut, a quick style, or just a welcoming spot to relax, this salon offers a true neighborhood experience, one appointment at a time.
You can reach Flo at 281-777-6373 or stop by the salon at 310 West Sterling in Baytown or check out her website: https://flos-hair-suite.square.site/

Lee College Program Helps Texas Inmates Rebuild Lives After Prison
At Lee College in Baytown, Calvin Green leads a one-of-a-kind program in Texas that helps inmates prepare for life after incarceration. Offered in partnership with the John M. Wynne Unit in Huntsville, this six-week reentry class addresses challenges like navigating technology, overcoming mental health hurdles, and securing employment.
A Life-Changing Opportunity
The program focuses on practical tools for rebuilding lives. Inmates learn how to use basic technology, identify resources like transitional housing and job networks, and manage the psychological toll of imprisonment. “What you say in this classroom changes the trajectory of their future,” says Green, a reentry specialist who shares his own experiences to inspire students.
Demand is high, with over 250 inmates on a waitlist for the class. Lee College hopes to expand the program, which has been linked to reduced recidivism. Students who participate have a 3% lower chance of reoffending within three years compared to Texas’ overall rate.
Breaking the Cycle
For students like Rudy Resendez, who has completed certifications in welding and business, the program is a path to a brighter future. Determined to break the cycle of incarceration in his family, Resendez says, “I’m trying to do everything in my power to make sure I don’t end up back in prison.”
With plans to collaborate further with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Lee College continues to offer inmates hope and tools to build successful lives beyond the prison walls.
