ExxonMobil Expands Baytown Advanced Recycling Facility as Part of $200M Investment
ExxonMobil has announced a $200 million investment to expand advanced recycling operations at its Baytown and Beaumont facilities in Texas. Set to begin operations in 2026, these expansions aim to add 350 million pounds of capacity annually, bringing the company’s total advanced recycling capacity to 500 million pounds per year in Texas. Globally, ExxonMobil plans to reach a 1 billion pound per year capacity by 2027, with additional units planned in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Highlights:
Baytown Success: Since opening in 2022, Baytown’s advanced recycling facility has processed more than 70 million pounds of plastic waste.
Circular Economy Focus: Advanced recycling transforms hard-to-recycle plastics into raw materials for products like food-safe packaging, lubricants, and high-performance plastics, reducing landfill waste.
Global Reach: ExxonMobil currently serves customers in over 15 countries and is expanding efforts to meet increasing demand for recycled materials.
ExxonMobil’s advanced recycling technology complements traditional methods by addressing a broader range of plastics, helping to establish a circular economy. This investment is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste and support innovation in sustainability.
Quote:
Karen McKee, President of ExxonMobil Product Solutions, stated, “This multi-million-dollar investment enhances our ability to convert hard-to-recycle plastics into raw materials, advancing a circular economy and reducing plastic waste worldwide.”
With proven technology and scalable solutions, ExxonMobil is poised to lead the charge in tackling the global plastic waste challenge.
