10am - 6pm @ Eagle Pointe
Nerd Con is back for another exciting year, set to take place at Eagle Pointe in Mont Belvieu on Nov. 16, 2024, from 10 AM to 6 PM. This community-driven, family-friendly convention, now in its sixth edition, promises to bring even more fun with over 100 vendor tables, 14 celebrity guests, and a packed schedule of activities.
A Brief History of Nerd Con
Nerd Con began in 2018 as a collaborative project between pop culture enthusiasts James Chisum and Jerry Shafer, and library leaders Kellee Traylor and Jinnie McLennan, who envisioned a vibrant event for the Chambers County community. From its humble beginnings at the Sam and Carmena Goss Memorial Library, Nerd Con quickly grew with the support of the City of Mont Belvieu and Chambers County, eventually finding a home at Eagle Pointe.
What to Expect This Year
This year’s Nerd Con offers something for everyone, from classic Peanuts voice actors to Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! talent and plenty of engaging panels and activities.
Celebrity Appearances:
Emily Cramer (Pokémon’s Togedemaru, Psyduck, and more) and Laurie Hymes (Pokémon’s Lillie) bring their voice acting talents to Mont Belvieu.
Gini Holtzman (Peppermint Patty in 1980s Peanuts specials) and Melanie Kohn (Lucy in 1970s Peanuts) will be on hand to share stories from their iconic roles.
Can’t-Miss Panels:
The Authors Panel: Kings and Queens of World Building at 12:30 PM in the Krypton Room, where authors share tips on crafting immersive worlds.
Awesome 80's Panel: Hosted by Marie McLendon, this nostalgic journey covers the best in 80s movies, music, TV, and toys.
Bigfoot on the Big Screen: Filmsquatch presents a deep dive into Bigfoot’s cinematic legacy, from "Harry and the Hendersons" to lesser-known classics.
Cosplay and Community Fun Longtime supporters of Nerd Con, The Saber Guild – Mustafar Temple will return with Jedi training sessions for young fans, alongside the 501st Legion and other Star Wars groups. Cosplayers and fan groups will fill Eagle Pointe, offering photo ops, performances, and interactive experiences throughout the day.
A Free Event for All
Thanks to continued support from the Chambers County Library System, the City of Mont Belvieu, Eagle Pointe, and dedicated partners like Eastern Rim Funnybook and Vintage Con, Nerd Con remains free to attend and park, inviting fans of all ages to come out for an unforgettable day.
Mark your calendars and get ready for a celebration of all things nerdy at this year’s Nerd Con!
Baytown Fire Dept. Receives
New 'Door Forward' Ambulance
The Baytown Fire Dept. just received a new ‘door forward’ ambulance built by Frazer in Houston. Wonder what is different about a ‘door forward’ ambulance?
A 'door forward' ambulance has a side door that is closer to the front of the vehicle instead of the middle. This design change helps paramedics and emergency responders work more easily and safely. It also provides privacy for the patient area.
Other Benefits of the 'Door Forward' Layout
Better Access for Paramedics: With the door in the front, paramedics can reach patients and medical equipment more quickly. This layout makes it easier for them to give care without having to move around as much.
Faster Patient Care: The door position helps patients get in and out of the ambulance more quickly. Paramedics also have closer access to medical tools, which means they can start helping patients faster.
Easy-to-Reach Supplies: The 'door forward' layout allows for a more organized space, making it easy for paramedics to grab needed items without searching.
Safer Environment: With a cleaner, more open design, paramedics can focus on their job without tripping hazards. This layout also keeps patients safer by reducing the clutter in the back of the ambulance.
In short, the 'door forward' ambulance layout helps paramedics provide faster, safer care to patients when it matters most.
