New Underground Energy Storage
Project Approved in Liberty County
A major energy infrastructure project is coming to Liberty County. NeuVentus, an Austin-based company, has received final approval from the Texas Railroad Commission to begin development on a massive underground storage site for natural gas, hydrogen, and other fuels. The facility—called the Texas Reliability Underground Hub, or TRU Hub—will be built in the Moss Bluff salt dome and use specially engineered salt caverns to safely store large volumes of energy.
What’s Being Built:
Up to 12 salt caverns will be constructed over time.
The first phase includes two caverns, each with capacity to store about 10 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
In the future, the site could hold up to 96 Bcf of gas, 100,000 metric tons of hydrogen, or 128 million barrels of natural gas liquids.
The facility will connect to a major pipeline network, giving it fast access to energy customers across the region.
Why It Matters to Our Area:
This project puts Liberty County—and by extension, the greater Baytown/Mont Belvieu area—on the map as a growing hub for energy storage and infrastructure development. With energy demand rising from industries like LNG, petrochemicals, power generation, and data centers, the TRU Hub is expected to play a key role in making sure supply keeps up with demand.
It also signals continued economic growth for the region, with potential for new jobs, long-term investment, and more high-profile energy projects in our own backyard.
NeuVentus is expected to begin marketing and development work soon, with construction to follow in phases.

The La Porte Police Dept. Reminds Us
Sexual Assault Awareness Month, observed each April, is a campaign that aims to increase awareness about the causes and risk factors for sexual assault and empower individuals to take steps to prevent it in their communities.
Observed as an opportunity to promote education and the prevention of sexual violence, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) traces its history to the 1970s, when activists first began organizing on a national scale to reduce sexual assault and violence against women. Advocates fought tirelessly to bring a topic once taboo for public discussion out of the shadows and shed light on the widespread problem of sexual assault.
This year’s theme “Together We Act, United We Change” highlights the importance of working together to address and prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. This campaign focuses on enhancing public understanding of sexual violence, amplifying the voices of survivors, and empowering us to work together to promote the safety and well-being of others. Everyone in our communities deserves to live in safe and supportive environments where they are treated with respect. When our workplaces, schools, and communities work together to uphold safety and respect, we make progress in preventing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment.
Together, we have the power to build a future free from violence, where all individuals feel safe, valued, and respected.

La Porte K9, Choir Boy, Has a New Handler
The La Porte Police Department is excited to announce that their K9, Choir Boy, has a new handler in that of Officer David Lyons! Joining the department in November 2022, Choir Boy has quickly become a beloved member of the force. Highly skilled in narcotics detection, his friendly demeanor and strong work ethic have made him a standout team member.
Officer Lyons, a seasoned six-year veteran with the La Porte Police Department, brings a wealth of experience to the role. A graduate of the Permian Basin Law Academy, Officer Lyons has completed the Integrity K9 Basic K9 Handler School and has served in various capacities, including patrol, the CID special investigations unit, and the HIDTA task force focusing on major drug crimes.
The success of the La Porte Police Department’s K9 program is a testament to years of hard work and community support. Over the past decade, the program has been instrumental in seizing substantial amounts of narcotics, cash, and illegal firearms. While La Porte does not face an official "drug problem," illegal substances are present in every community, and proactive intervention is key to preventing these issues from escalating.
The K9 program thrives thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals. The initiative was initially funded by a donation from Beacon Federal Credit Union of La Porte, with additional support coming from seized drug-related assets and K9OFFICERS.ORG.
As always, stay vigilant and keep an eye out for the K9 teams on patrol. Together with the dedicated officers of the La Porte Police Department, they work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
