Update: 6-Month-Old Baby Dies
Following Dog Attack in Baytown
This story is a heartbreaking follow-up to a report we shared in yesterday’s edition about a dog attack involving an infant in Baytown.
Tragically, Baytown Police have confirmed that the 6-month-old baby girl has died from injuries she sustained in the attack. [Police originally said the baby was a year old, but with the newer reports, the baby was only 6 months old]
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Inverness Gardens apartments on E. James Avenue, just before 4 p.m.
According to officials, the dog responsible for the attack belonged to the infant’s parents. The baby was reportedly attacked inside the family’s apartment, then transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead on Wednesday morning.
Baytown Animal Services seized two dogs from the home. Both were male pit bull mixes; the dog involved in the attack was about one year old and wore a red collar. The second dog, which was kenneled during the incident, was not involved. The city has confirmed that the attacking dog will be euthanized, while the future of the second dog will be left to the family.
At this time, no arrests or criminal charges have been filed, but Baytown police say the investigation remains ongoing and further details will be released when available.
Our hearts go out to the family during this unimaginable time. We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they are released by authorities.
DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Sergeant Cervantes
For nearly 28 years, Sgt. Cervantes has dedicated her career to serving the City of Baytown—27 of those as a police officer. Her journey into law enforcement began with a childhood encounter with a Houston Police Officer, a moment that left a lasting impression and ignited her passion for the job. That passion has carried her through years in Patrol, Investigations, and now as a Patrol Sergeant (Days A). As the only female sergeant in our department, she continues to pave the way for future generations of women in law enforcement. Her advice? “Go for it. It’s a tough job, but you’ll love it.”
