PSA From BPD: Toll Road Text Scams
Editorâs Note: A friend of mine almost fell for this scam two weeks ago. She received a text claiming to be from HCTRA about an unpaid fine. Instead of responding, she went to the HCTRA office in Pasadena to verify. Staff confirmed it was a scam affecting many people, and she owed nothing. Thankfully, by checking in person, she avoided being scamed!
Heads up, Baytown! If you get a text about paying a toll, donât click on any linksâeven if they look legit. Hereâs how to protect yourself:
⢠The number â If the sender isnât someone you recognize, donât engage. Itâs likely a scam.
⢠The link â Scammers get creative and sometimes use links that look official, but donât be fooled. If you didnât expect a toll notice, donât click anything.
⢠Report it â If you get a suspicious text, mark it as junk or spam, and move on with your day.
Bonus tip: Always double-check the senderâs nameâscammers love to impersonate real agencies. If it doesnât seem quite right, trust your instincts.
Pro Tip: Official toll companies like EZ TAG (issued by Harris County Toll Road Authority - HCTRA) and TxTag (issued by Texas Department of Transportation) will never request payment via text, gift cards, or bitcoins. If you receive a payment request like that, itâs definitely a scam.
If you owe any tolls, youâll receive an official notice in the mail. Donât panic, just visit the official site to take care of it.
Be smart, stay safe, and remember: a toll is meant to be paid, but not via text.

IMPORTANT ROAD CLOSURES: Microsurfacing Program
Starting March 24, crews will begin microsurfacing roadways across the city. This cost-effective maintenance seals and rejuvenates existing asphalt, extending the pavementâs life.
Roadways impacted on Day 1 include: Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Houston, Ward, Cedar Bayou, Aron, Alexander, North Alexander, North 4th, and Peggy
During active work, streets will be closed to vehicle access. All parked vehicles must be moved and sprinklers turned off 24 hours before and after treatment. Residents will receive door hangers from Public Works & Engineering one week before work begins, and from the contractor 24 hours before paving.
Weather permitting, work will occur between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. There are eight zones and work in each zone is expected to take one day.

Construction Update:
North Main Concrete Repairs
Notice From the City of Baytown:
The Concrete Preservation Program (CPP) maintenance on North Main continues with the current phase of improvements. Work is ongoing in the northbound outside lane, which remains closed starting at Archer Road.
Crews will perform comprehensive maintenance work to ensure a smoother and more comfortable driving experience for motorists.
Project completion remains weather-dependent. We encourage motorists to use alternate routes during construction as lane closures will be in effect.
We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our city's infrastructure.
