Baytown Pursues Exit Strategy
for Troon Golf Contract

The City of Baytown is reevaluating operations at Tabbs Bay Golf Course, including the management contract with Troon Golf, LLC due to rising costs and underperformance.

In May, the Baytown City Council approved a $1.9 million short-term agreement with Troon to cover vendor payments, sustain course operations, and complete the on-site restaurant. However, financial projections from the company failed to meet expectations.

Troon originally estimated nearly 16,000 budgeted rounds of golf would be played in 2024, but actual numbers were right at 6,000 rounds. The company projected 27,000 rounds for 2025, with the City responsible for covering any shortfalls. With Troon already reaching the financial cap of its agreement, City officials have determined continuing the partnership is not likely viable for the future.

City Manager Jason Reynolds said, “The numbers didn’t add up and we can’t continue taking on unnecessary financial risk.”

The City will now evaluate future possibilities for the property while maintaining it as part of the public parks system. The on-site kitchen will be completed for potential use in future projects.

The Tiarras will be coming to play at Town Square as part of Dollar Taco Night on May 3.

These two events are just the beginning of the season.

Fourth of July

And finally, on July 4, Baytown is proud to welcome 80’s cover band, the Spazmatics, and headliner Ezra Ray Hart. The supergroup combines the lead singer talents from alternative rock bands Better than Ezra, Sugar Ray, and Tonic. The group will be belting out a combined 18 top ten singles and songs that have more than a billion streams. The night will end with the best fireworks show across the Texas gulf coast.

It will be a summer to remember. Again, all of these events are free to the public. For more information, please visit baytown.org/events.

Construction Update:
North Main Concrete Repairs

Notice From the City of Baytown:

The Concrete Preservation Program (CPP) maintenance on North Main continues with the current phase of improvements. Work is ongoing in the northbound outside lane, which remains closed starting at Archer Road.

Crews will perform comprehensive maintenance work to ensure a smoother and more comfortable driving experience for motorists.

Project completion remains weather-dependent. We encourage motorists to use alternate routes during construction as lane closures will be in effect.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our city's infrastructure.

BPD Officers Seize One Pound of Marijuana
During Traffic Stop in Crestmont

Notice From the Baytown Police Dept.

On March 7, 2025, officers conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle speeding through the Crestmont neighborhood. Upon investigation, they discovered approximately one pound of marijuana, taking more illegal drugs off our streets. Despite the driver's evasive behavior, our officers remained focused and ensured the safety of our community.

Possessing or distributing illegal substances puts our community at risk. Help us keep our streets safe by reporting suspicious activity. Together, we can create a safer Baytown.
