Baytown to Gain Major Energy Boost
with NRG’s Cedar Bayou Expansion
Baytown is set to see a major energy expansion as NRG Energy moves forward with plans for a 721-megawatt (MW) natural gas combined-cycle unit at its Cedar Bayou plant. This project is part of a larger initiative by NRG to increase power generation capacity in Texas, responding to the state’s surging electricity demand.
The Cedar Bayou expansion is the first of three quick-start natural gas projects that NRG has proposed for the Houston area, with additional units planned at TH Wharton (455 MW) and Greens Bayou (456 MW). These new facilities are designed to deliver power to the grid in under 30 minutes, ensuring greater reliability as Texas experiences rapid population and industrial growth.
NRG has already submitted a loan application to the Texas Energy Fund (TEF), administered by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), to help finance the Baytown project. The company is also seeking local tax abatements to support development. The project's completion will depend on the approval of these funding sources.
The planned expansion aligns with NRG’s recent acquisition of 738 MW of natural gas plants from Rockland Capital, further solidifying its role as a leading power generator in Texas.
If approved, the Cedar Bayou project will contribute significantly to Baytown’s energy infrastructure, supporting both local and statewide electricity demands in the years ahead.

Major Logistics Hub Planned for Baytown
with Q4 2025 Completion
A new large-scale logistics park is coming to Baytown, Texas, as Rockefeller Group and Falcon Commercial Development join forces on a 557,339-square-foot industrial project within the Houston metropolitan area.
The development, known as East Bay Trade Center, will be located at 19454 Needlepoint Road and will feature two buildings—one spanning 307,595 square feet and the other 249,744 square feet. Falcon Development initially purchased the 38.96-acre site and secured entitlements before bringing in Rockefeller Group as a partner.
Baytown is a major hub for industrial activity and home to some of the nation's leading crude oil and natural gas exporters. The project's location offers direct access to the Port of Houston, enhancing its appeal for logistics and distribution companies.
Munson & Associates designed the East Bay Trade Center, while FCL Builders is leading construction. The Colliers Houston team, represented by Robert McGee, Taylor Schmidt, and Austin Bartula, will handle leasing and marketing efforts.
The project is set for completion in Q4 2025.
