Baytown Man Sentenced to 10 Years
for Meth Trafficking

A 43-year-old Baytown man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking after being caught with six kilograms of methamphetamine, authorities announced.

Investigators learned in January 2024 that David Lee Garza was transporting meth from the Rio Grande Valley to Houston. On January 25, he traveled to a storage unit in McAllen, retrieved several items, and was stopped by law enforcement while leaving the area. Officers discovered six kilograms of meth in his vehicle, tested at 99% purity.

Garza pleaded guilty on May 31, 2024. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced him to 120 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The court also considered Garza’s criminal history, which includes a prior conviction for aggravated assault with a firearm and a previous federal conviction for cocaine distribution.

Authorities say Garza used the storage unit as a stash location before transporting drugs. He remains in custody and will be transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

KFC Relocates Headquarters to Texas,
Strengthening State’s Business Boom

KFC, one of the world’s most recognizable fast-food chains, is relocating its U.S. headquarters from Kentucky to Texas, reinforcing the state's status as a rapidly growing business hub. The move will bring about 100 corporate employees to Plano, Texas, where parent company Yum! Brands already houses Pizza Hut's global headquarters.

Additionally, 90 remote positions will transition to Texas over the next 18 months, with Yum! Brands offering relocation support. The decision follows a trend of major companies choosing Texas for its business-friendly environment, which includes no state income tax, a strong workforce, and a booming economy.

Texas is also experiencing significant population and housing growth. A recent Realtor.com® report ranked it as the fastest-growing state in the U.S., with 15% of the nation's housing permits issued in 2024.

Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs emphasized that consolidating teams in one location will strengthen company culture and collaboration, ultimately benefiting customers, employees, and franchisees.

Wednesday’s Quiz -What surprising ability allows octopuses to squeeze through incredibly tight spaces?
Answer: B) They have no bones, so they can fit through any opening larger than their beak.

Octopuses are completely boneless, except for their hard, parrot-like beak. This means they can squeeze through incredibly tight spaces, as long as their beak can fit. This incredible flexibility allows them to escape predators, navigate tiny crevices, and even slip out of aquariums!
