Lee College Professor Accused of
Aggravated Sexual Assault in Kemah

A Baytown Lee College professor has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault after allegedly attacking a woman he met through the dating app Tinder.

According to the Kemah Police Department, 56-year-old Charles Rodney Finnell Jr., an accounting professor at Lee College, turned himself in on February 19, 2025. Authorities say the alleged incident occurred on February 1, 2024, at his home in Kemah, Texas.

Investigators report that Finnell met the 26-year-old woman at a Friendswood park before inviting her to his luxury home near Galveston Bay for dinner. When she attempted to leave, Finnell allegedly overpowered, strangled, and sexually assaulted her. The victim later sought medical treatment for her injuries.

During their investigation, Kemah police discovered multiple social media posts from women warning about a man they encountered on Tinder who displayed aggressive behavior. Authorities later identified Finnell as the person described in these warnings and are now investigating other possible incidents.

Finnell was taken into custody on surveillance video before being booked into Galveston County Jail on an $80,000 bond.

His attorney has denied the allegations, claiming that text messages exist proving his client’s innocence.

Lee College has confirmed that Finnell has been on administrative leave since October 2024 in line with their internal policies. In a statement, the college emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe learning and work environment for students and staff.

The Kemah Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this case or other possible victims to call 281-334-5414.

Texans Explore New Stadium
as NRG Lease Nears End

The Houston Texans are exploring options for a new stadium as their NRG Stadium lease expires in 2032. Renovating the stadium is estimated to cost $1.4 billion, and the team may seek public funding for a new facility. However, Harris County still owes $1 billion in debt from past sports venue projects, making taxpayer support uncertain. With new team president Mike Tomon’s expertise in stadium development, discussions on the future of Houston’s NFL home are expected to continue.
