Baytown Covestro Benefits from
Company’s Move to Net-Zero Power

Covestro, a company that makes high-tech plastic materials, is making big strides in using clean energy. Thanks to a special agreement with Ørsted, a leader in renewable energy, Covestro has reached net-zero electricity emissions at four of its U.S. sites. This means these locations now run completely on renewable electricity.

The Baytown Covestro facility is also benefiting from this move toward clean energy. While four other Covestro locations—Channelview, Texas; South Deerfield, Massachusetts; New Martinsville, West Virginia; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—have fully switched to net-zero electricity emissions, extra energy credits from the agreement are helping lower Baytown’s carbon footprint as well.

This change is part of Covestro’s plan to produce materials in a way that helps the environment. The company’s goal is to make its production completely climate-neutral by 2035. The agreement with Ørsted provides 90 megawatts of renewable energy, cutting about 90,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

Covestro leaders say this step is important for the future. Samir Hifri, chairman and president of Covestro LLC, explained that working with Ørsted shows how companies can team up to make a real difference in the chemical industry. He also said that Covestro is committed to growing in a sustainable way in the U.S.

The company has also invested millions of dollars in its U.S. locations to support clean energy and sustainability. This shows Covestro’s strong commitment to both business growth and protecting the environment.
